Claire MacDonald

My life path, both professionally and personally has led me to serve as an end-of-life doula. It has been my experience that being present at the end-of-life can provide an opportunity for connection, kinship, and meaning. This can be both for the dying and their people.
My work has been people-centred for over three decades. I am a Registered Massage Therapist in BC, serving a diverse and aging population. I gained capacity in both volunteer and paid positions as a Community Support Worker, Big Sister, and program staff with non-profit societies where I supported individuals, and facilitated groups. I recently completed comprehensive training in Trauma Therapy (Somatic Experiencing®). As well as my role as a doula, I am qualified to offer therapeutic touch.
Acting as an advocate is a position that I approach with care. It is my intention to minimize suffering, increase dignity and create an environment at the end-of-life that carries out my clients’ wishes. I believe that we heal through relationship, and I am inspired to bring this element to end-of-life care.
I am sustained and supported by the natural world. I find relaxation walking my dogs in the woods, and a regular practice of meditation keeps me grounded. I partake in a mythology club which helps me understand and connect with my origins.
